What is the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) visa programme about?

  • It is a long term social visit pass.
  • The standard term of the Visa is 10 years and is renewable thereafter.
  • It allows participants to come and go as they please.
  • MM2H participants enjoy several privileges under this programme

What are the privileges?

  • Applicants can buy or import one car free of taxes.
  • In addition they can purchase any number of residential properties.
  • They will be able to employ the services of  one maid.
  • Their children will be able to attend International universities, colleges and schools here.
  • All income and gifts received from overseas will not be taxed.
  • In addition successful applicants may invest in business just like any foreign investor.
  • Applicants above the age of 50 may apply for permission to work part-time i.e. 20 hours per week.

How is qualification made?

  • Applicants must show that they can derive a minimum regular monthly offshore income of RM10,000 a month.
  • In addition, those under 50 years of age, should have assets —preferably cash — of the equivalent of at least RM500, 000.
  • For those above the age of 50, the amount is RM 350, 000. Once the application is approved, applicants under 50 have to place a Fixed Deposit of RM300,000.00 in a bank in Malaysia for 1 year.
  • They can withdraw RM150,000.00 at the end of the one year term to purchase a property or other approved expenses.
  • Those above 50 are required to place a fixed deposit account with a local bank of RM150,000.00 for one year.
  • At the end of the term (1 year) they may withdraw RM50, 000.00 for purchase of property and other approved expenses.

What restrictions apply?

  • Applicants are required to respect the laws of the country and refrain from any activity that is detrimental to the security of the country.
  • Participants in the Programme are not allowed to be employed in Malaysia. However, They are allowed to invest in business as a non executive partner/director.
  • Purchase of Property is allowed for Residences at a minimum purchase price of RM1,000,000.

  • Participants are not allowed to withdraw the fixed deposit for the whole duration of the one year period, unless for emergency cases with prior approval from the Ministry of Tourism.

Can I place the fixed deposit in a Malaysian bank located in my country?

  • No. The fixed deposit account must be opened in any Malaysian bank or financial institution located in Malaysia.

Can a purchase of a house in Malaysia which is valued more than RM 1,000,000.00 be considered as having fulfilled the financial criteria for this programme?

  • No. Approved applicants are however exempted from the FULL fixed deposit requirement of RM150,000 for those aged above 50 years and RM 300,000 for those aged below 50 years.
  • They may instead place a fixed deposit of RM 100,000 (applicants above 50 years of age) or RM 150,000 (applicants aged below 50 years)  in any bank or financial institution in Malaysia until they decide to leave the MM2H programme.

Am I allowed to withdraw my fixed deposit for a few months and then top it back later?

  • No. Participants are not allowed to do this, unless for an emergency purpose and with prior approval from the Ministry of Tourism.

When can I withdraw my fixed deposit?

  • After a period of one year, the participant may withdraw his/her fixed deposit for approved expenses relating to house purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes OR when he/she decides to terminate his/her stay in Malaysia by first informing the Ministry of Tourism of his/her intention at Malaysia My Second Home Centre.
  • Participants can apply to withdraw part of their fixed deposit for emergency cases such as medical purposes, etc. with prior approval of the Ministry of Tourism.

I am a Malaysian married to a foreigner. Can my spouse apply for MM2H?
